Pegassi Steps Into a New Era With Debut EP ‘Ascension’

Belgian producer Pegassi delivers four tracks spanning hard dance, UK garage influences and personal songwriting on his long-awaited debut EP.

After years of building his identity across clubs and festival stages around the world, Pegassi has reached a major milestone with the release of his debut EP, Ascension.

Released September 4 via his own Sweet Nothing imprint, the four-track project represents perhaps the clearest snapshot yet of the Belgian DJ and producer’s evolving sound. Across Ascension, Pegassi moves between euphoric rave energy, experimental club production and a more personal side of his artistry — including stepping behind the microphone himself.

For an artist whose rise through Europe’s new generation of rave music has accelerated dramatically in recent years, the EP’s title feels particularly fitting.

Four Tracks, Four Sides of Pegassi

At the center of the project is its title track, “Ascension,” a record that has already spent more than two years developing a reputation through Pegassi’s live sets.

Long before receiving an official release, the track became a fan favorite on festival stages. Built around hard-dance energy and a driving low end, “Ascension” combines UK garage-influenced percussion and hi-hats with a robotic vocal, connecting several of the sounds that have come to characterize Pegassi’s productions.

But rather than building an EP entirely around that formula, Pegassi uses the remaining tracks to explore different corners of his musical identity.

“Forest Walk” pushes the tempo to 148 BPM, pairing a slightly distorted kick with driving hi-hats, an elevated arpeggio and upbeat bass shots. Intermittent male vocals cut through the production while the track maintains the relentless forward momentum suited to Pegassi’s club sets.

“Twinflame” shifts toward a hypnotic, high-energy atmosphere inspired by the feeling of spending a summer on the road. Designed firmly with the dancefloor in mind, it captures the euphoric side of the project while maintaining the intensity running throughout Ascension.

Then comes its most personal moment.

Closing track “Circles” finds Pegassi recording his own vocals — only the second time he has stepped behind the microphone himself. The decision gives the final track a distinctly human dimension and provides a fitting contrast to the harder club-focused material preceding it.

“This EP has been a long time coming. Every track on it means something different to me, some of them you’ve heard in my sets, some of them you’ve never heard at all. ‘Ascension’ felt like the right name for it. It’s where I am right now, and where I’m going.”

Fourteen Years Leading to ‘Ascension’

Although Pegassi’s international breakthrough may feel relatively recent, Ascension represents the culmination of a much longer journey.

The creative alias of Belgian producer Sam Huybrecht, Pegassi has spent roughly 14 years developing his craft. His breakthrough accelerated following the release of “Yoyoyo” in 2023, helping introduce his high-energy approach to a rapidly expanding international audience.

Records including “Spectral Bells,” “227kg,” “Bring It Back” and “MOAA” have followed, while his music has earned support from artists across the electronic spectrum including KI/KI, VTSS, Tiësto, Anetha, SPFDJ, Marlon Hoffstadt, Boys Noize, DJ Gigola and Hannah Laing.

That momentum has increasingly translated from streaming platforms and DJ support to some of electronic music’s biggest stages.

Pegassi has appeared at festivals and events including Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Time Warp, Dour, Sziget, Intercell, Pitch, EDC Las Vegas and Boiler Room, while expanding his touring footprint across Europe, North America, South America and Australia.

His 2026 campaign has pushed things even further. Pegassi delivered a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, premiered his own audiovisual show at Tomorrowland 2026, and sold more than 13,000 tickets across debut headline shows in Melbourne and Sydney, according to his team.

Building the Sweet Nothing Universe

The release also represents another step forward for Sweet Nothing, Pegassi’s own label and event concept.

Rather than functioning solely as a home for his releases, Sweet Nothing is developing into a wider creative platform surrounding the music, community and visual identity behind Pegassi’s next phase. Events across cities including London, Berlin and Amsterdam are helping expand that universe beyond the records themselves.

That makes Ascension more than simply a collection of four tracks.

It captures an artist reaching a new level while simultaneously laying the groundwork for what comes next. The festival-ready intensity that helped establish Pegassi remains firmly intact, but moments such as “Circles” suggest he is increasingly willing to move outside the boundaries audiences may expect from him.

For Pegassi, the ascent has already been years in the making.
